Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Scout Ransack Review

Ransack is one strange looking toy. He's got an unconventional alt mode (in the form of an old biplane) and an even weirder looking robot mode. In Ransack's case though, different is good.

The Highs:
- Awesome plane mode.
- Great robot mode.
- Unique transformation.
- Great articulation.
- Lots of gimmicks.
- Very authentic looking colors.
- Cool looking bonus battle mode.

The Mids:
- Good articulation but with very flimsy looking limbs.
- Great toy; would have been awesome if it was made into a larger class figure.

The Lows:
- Nothing much to complain here.

Plane Mode: 9.5/10
Ransack's biplane mode is sweet! For a small little toy it still has an open cockpit that could be used to store a tiny little pilot, machines guns on one wing, and bombs on the other. The plane's burgundy and dark tan colors are very true to the rustic look of a vintage aircraft; and best of all, every one if its parts fit flush and snug. The biplane has tons of detail which is a welcomed bonus for such a small toy.

Robot Mode: 8/10
The robot mode is also very well done. Although it's not as impressive looking as the alt mode (mainly due to the fact that it seems so thin and flimsy), it's still very solid and poseable. Ransack is one robot with a lot of character; most of which comes from his unique looks. He also has an extra battle mode in which the wings are outstretched behind his back and his propeller is angled forward from his chest; it actually looks kinda cool.

Transformation: 8/10
The transformation is relatively complex for a Scout class toy. The back end of the plane becomes his legs and the undercarriage of the wings becomes the arms. The engine is lifted upwards to reveal his head, and the wings are folded towards the back like those of a moth. You'll begin to appreciate the transformation more when you realize how much it benefits the looks of both modes and the articulation.

Articulation/Poseability: 7.75/10
- Ball-jointed head can pivot and very slightly rotate.
- Shoulders can angle and swing.
- Arms can bend; hands are stationary.
- Torso can rotate; ball-jointed hips can swing and rotate.
- Knees can bend; feet can pivot.

Ransack's got a good deal of articulation; unfortunately, his thin build and large wing(s) kibble take a lot away from the look of his poses. Still, his joints are very tight so he can be posed in most positions (even if he doesn't look all that great in doing so).

Accessories/Gimmicks: 8.5/10
Besides the cool battle mode, Ransack has both the machine guns and bombs attached to each arm in robot form. You can aim those weapons 360° which compensates for the lack of hand articulation. I also really like the fact that the propeller can turn and the aforementioned useable hole in the pilot seat.

Intangibles (a unique and surprising Transformer): 8/10
I love it when Hasbro and Takara Tomy break the mold once in a while and release a cool new toy that doesn't resemble anything that they've done before. Now if I can just find a tiny little figure that I can custom fit into that pilot seat…

Value for the Price ($7.99 U.S.): 9/10
Hasbro has upped the price of Ransack's class by a buck; but this toy is still worth the buy. I got mine on sale for $7 CDN so you can wait for a sale if you're short of cash. But don't wait for too long, the Ransacks around my area have sold out before any of the other Scout class figure (OK, OK... may because it wasn't stocked as much).

Overall (not an average): 8.5/10 (Great)
Even if you're not into strange looking toys, Ransack is still a very well made toy worthy of being in anyone's collection. I just wished that the toy was made as a larger class figure; there's so much you can do with an upscaled design that this toy would easily have be rated as awesome.
