I’ve never seen a pregnant Transformer before… until I got HA Leadfoot. This guy literally has a human coming out of his (fat) belly. There was a sale on the Takara version online so I decided to get that one instead of driving south across the border and getting one from Target (which will be in Canada next year… nice). It was indeed a good choice as the vibrant metallic red paint made up for most of this toy’s flaws.

<!--

Pros:
- Very accurate/realistic looking car mode.
- Vibrant colors.
- Cool accessories.
- Intricate transformation.
Cons:
- Gimmicks are strange and awkward.
- Robot mode looks funny at best… ridiculous at worst.

First of all, I just want to say how impressed I am of the vehicle mode. The details are minute and superbly molded throughout every inch of this toy. The seams are perfectly in line with each other and all the panels fit snug & flush in place. The driver (Sgt. Detour) sits nicely inside and Steeljaw stands obediently outside. The paint scheme is a huge upgrade to the plain red plastic of the U.S. version. Transformation is complex but not as hard or perplexing as some other HA figures. The problem lies more with the resulting robot mode.

As a robot, Leadfoot is rather short and stout. He’s got a huge belly that protrudes out with a sunken chest than can only be made to look decent if you stick Sgt. Detour in front of it. His arms are disproportionally long and his clasping hands do little more than angle from side to side. Steeljaw can turn into a huge missile launcher while Sgt. Detour mans Leadfoot’s “belly guns”. Articulation & poseability are hindered due to the front baggage as well as the figure’s odd body proportions. Leadfoot definitely has the weakest robot form within the HA line.

Vehicle Mode: 10/10
Robot Mode: 6.75/10
Transformation: 9/10
Articulation/Poseability: 6.75/10
Accessories/Gimmicks: 8/10
Intangibles (a lot of ups and downs with this toy): 7/10
Value for the Price (varies): 8/10
Overall (not an average): 8/10 (Great)

FE CJ is definitely worth paying more for if you have to track him down… just forget about this ugly RID impostor.

With FE toys being canceled and replaced by RID version… there is a lot of righteous anger against Hasbro’s handling of the situation. I’m happy to say that after playing around with some of the new FE toys released… TF fans should have nothing to worry about in terms of the company’s dedication towards making great toys. Unfortunately, in order to move towards a smaller scaled toy line… Hasbro needed to remake all their FE characters into RID sized ones; which no doubt hurried and negatively affected their designs.

<!--

First Edition Cliffjumper is definitely one of the coolest deluxe TF toys to date. He’s got beefy body proportions and super-cool flip-out hand blasters. Even though he’s primarily red & black (plus silver), the level of molded detail makes the figure look very vibrant. He’s got a ton of articulating parts and can make an insane number of wicked poses. His car form is clean and crisp with barely any kibble to be seen. My only gripe is the fact that some of the panels don’t fit snugly in vehicle mode. Below are his score totals:

Vehicle Mode: 9/10
Robot Mode: 9.75/10
Transformation: 9/10
Articulation/Poseability: 9.5/10
Accessories/Gimmicks: 8.5/10
Intangibles (finally, CJ gets his own mould): 9.5/10
Value for the Price ($11.99 U.S.): 9.5/10
Overall (not an average): 9.5/10 (Excellent)

RID Cliffjumber is basically the exact opposite of the FE version. Take all the great things about FE and turn them into pure garbage… and you’ll get RID CJ. The plastic looks cheap and the details are bland & blurry. His colors seem faded and the robot’s body proportions look more like a crippled ape than a baddass Autobot. The only decent thing about this toy is the fact that it comes with a weapon accessory (though it doesn’t have FE’s flip-out blasters)… well, that and the fact that the car mode is very tight and flush (though it’s got clearly visible kibble and stupid looking weapons slot-holes). I don’t know what irks me more, this crappy toy or the fact that there’s people out there who thinks this guy is even close to being as awesome as FE CJ… which he is NOT!!! FE CJ is definitely worth paying more for if you have to track him down… just forget about this ugly RID impostor. I might give my RID CJ away to some kid and open my extra FE version to pose for his alt mode. Below are the score totals:

Vehicle Mode: 5/10
Robot Mode: 4.75/10
Transformation: 5/10
Articulation/Poseability: 6.5/10
Accessories/Gimmicks: 6/10
Intangibles (an embarrassment to Hasbro): 3/10
Value for the Price ($11.99 U.S.): 4/10
Overall (not an average): 4.75/10 (Poor)

This be one of those times when I wish I had the time to elaborate and write in-depth & concise reviews. But I don’t, so here we go… again. Reviewed today are Transformers Prime FE Voyager Optimus Prime, Revoltech Optimus Prime, Battle Tanker add-on for RTS Laser Prime, Cyberverse Guzzle, Bandai SD Infinity VF-25F, Eden of the East, Highschool of the Dead, Redline, Alan Wake: American Nightmare, Asura’s Wrath, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Mass Effect 3.

Transformers Prime First Edition Voyager Optimus Prime:
FE Voyager Prime is by far one of the best voyager sized Primes ever made. This incredible looking figure has intricate transformation, tons of articulation and an insane amount of detail. The only reason this guy didn’t get a full review was the fact that his transformation is so dang similar to that of the deluxe version. His robot body is perfectly angular and his truck mode is flush, tight and has no visible kibble. Prime is definitely the best toy of the FE release and he gets a 9.75/10 (Excellent).

Revoltech Optimus Prime Review:
If you can’t afford an expensive replica statue of movie Optimus Prime then Revoltech’s version is the next best bet… I guess. With all the chiselled detail and vibrant paint apps, there also comes rubbery & fidgety material that makes this non-transformable figure unstable and not-very-poseable. He does come with a ton of accessories however, and the poses that you can make out for him are very imposing looking. Overall, this guy gets an 8/10 (Great).

MakeToys Battle Tanker Add-On for RTS Laser Prime Review:
For a first time release by a brand new 3rd party company, this add-on kit is very impressive indeed. Although slight modifications are needed for a perfect fit, the tolerances of this kit to snap perfectly in place onto Laser Prime are incredibly precise. Every mode of this kit is functionable and adds a supremely badass look to the robot and truck modes. The glowing sword and other accessories are very detailed and can be stored within the rest of the kit when not held. There’s room for improvement as it’s not quite yet the FanProjects quality… but I’m sure they’ll get there. This kit gets a 9/10 (Excellent).

Transformers Cyberverse Commander Guzzle Review:
There was a lot of hype around this scout sized figure and after playing around with him, it’s kinda warranted. He’s got a lot of detail and articulation plus a logical and clean transformation. He’s not quite in the league of some of the better/awesome scouts out there, but he’s definitely cool enough to track down… and he’s really hard to find in my neck of the woods. I’m giving Guzzle an 8.25/10 (Great).

Bandai SD Infinity VF-25F Review:
I got this little guy for $25 over retail… which is a good deal I suppose ‘cause he’s going for around $200 on eBay. Although this SD version has all 3 modes of the VF-25, it shares very little in terms of transformation with the DX version. It’s hard to believe that this little toy can actually transform into a battroid, gerwalk and fighter and still retain all the articulation that it does. It comes with two different sized heads… and a good amount of accessories. There’s even a bit of diecast used… which is a nice bonus. This super-deformed figure gets a 9/10 (Excellent).

Eden of the East Anime Series & Movies Review:
Somewhere in the near future, a group of people are chosen to bring change to the world with enormous sums of money. The recourses are provided by a mysterious individual who monitors the progress of the chosen via a smart device/phone. The central character is a young man who is amongst the chosen. The premise of the story is a bit wacky and the methods employed by our hero don’t make too much sense in the beginning… but it all works out in the end (of the final 2 movies). I got more caught up on the relationships between the main character and his love interest (& their companions) rather than on the main arch of the plot. This anime is full of surprises but the ending is a wee bit timid… it gets a 7.75/10 (Good).

HighSchool of the Dead Anime Series + OVA Review:
What’s better than a world filled with zombies and all you are left with for companions are a hot set of girls and a nerdy buddy? Not Much!!! This anime is full of violence and fanservice. The plot isn’t that bad either, though there really aren’t many twists or turns… as all you get is a zombie killing cartoon with a lot of T&A. The production value is very high and the animation is among the very best. If you can park your brain aside to enjoy some eye candy then this is the anime for you. HOTD gets an 8/10 (Great).

Redline Anime Movie Review:
Redline is definitely one of the most stylish and exciting anime I’ve seen in a long time. The characters are intriguing and sexy while the thin plot is more than made up for by vividly imaginative animation & environments. The story is less about vehicles racing in Mars and more about blockbuster visuals & audio. The suspenseful nature of the car races is masterfully animated while the odd/quirky characters bring of a fresh perspective to action for anime fans. I’m giving Redline a 9/10 (Excellent).

Alan Wake: American Nightmare Review
Think of this XBLA title as a condensed sequel to the main game with a lot of looping but also with a lot of new enemies & weapons. Considering how many times you have to repeat the same set of mini-stories… this game didn’t really feel boring at all. Though short, competing the game gave new insights to the overarching plot behind the Alan wake story. I can’t wake for the next full game. American Nightmare gets an 8/10 (Great).

Asura’s Wrath Review:
Angry Asura is… a Kratos killer he is not. After seeing all the planetary insanity behind the trailers, I was very disappointed in playing the actual game of Asura’s Wrath. It’s basically a simple button masher with limited interaction. After a while, every level feels like the same bland/boring experience. The cutscenes do a good job selling an interesting plot but the graphics are quite subpar. There really isn’t much to this game besides hitting your enemies till your gauge allows you to finish them off. It’s a miracle that I actually had the effort to finish this game… and it get a 5/10 (mediocre).

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Review:
Did they need to make another FF game based on the XIII characters? No, but expect even more when XIV comes out. XIII-2 has more runarounds than a merry-go-round. The story is decent but the gameplay is so dumbed down that all you have to do is to click the same freakin’ button during most of the battles. Being able to capture, team-up with, and upgrade monsters is cool, but all you need is like 3 key ones and you are ready to kill just about anybody. This game gets a 6.75/10 (Decent)… can’t believe I actually finished it.

Mass Effect 3 Review:
What can I say about Mass Effect 3 that hasn’t been said recently. It’s freakin’ awesome and does a masterful job in the accumulation of all the previous deeds of a player from part 1 & 2. The story is befitting of a great blockbuster movie with very touching and inspiring mini-stories behind all the main characters. You have 3 ways of playing the game this time, but the traditional way is still the best. Multiplayer is super-fun but most of us got this game for the main campaign. And this series does end in a definitive way… unlike some other (less impressive mega-titles). I kinda feel sad/verklempt now that the game is over, but the game does reward you for all the right choices you’re character (Commander Shepherd) made during the past 3 games. ME3 gets a 9.25/10 (Excellent).

There’s just one Prime product less popular than Bumblebee and it was this entertainment pack. Priced at over $40 here… it was clogging up shelf space for a while. Toys R Us had a 40% off sale on it so why not… I gave it a shot. Little did I know that both Prime and Megs would be so cool.

Deluxe Optimus Prime Review:
“Prime Prime” is definitely one of the best deluxe incarnations of the iconic character. The transformation is complex but easy to understand. In vehicle mode, all the parts fit snug and flush with no kibble to be seen. His robot mode has a ton of articulation and poseability… and it’s got a very symmetric form. Regardless if you are going to get the voyager (or leader) version of Prime, this deluxe version is definitely still worth getting… he gets a 9/10 (Excellent).

Deluxe Megatron Review:
Poor Megatron rarely seems to get the best robot or alt modes. Though this version is no exception, it’s still a very cool toy to behold. The transformation is a lot more involving than first thought and the alien spaceship mode with Megs’ ducked head is kinda cute if nothing else. Seeing how the R.I.D. versions of Prime toys are going to be smaller and less detailed… this Megatron is actually quite large for a deluxe; so maybe you can save some money by getting this one and not have to buy the R.I.D. voyager version (though it’s still gonna be a bit smaller). The paint scheme looks to be more vibrant in this First Edition version too. Anyways, Megs gets an 8/10 (Great).

The other stuff:
Well, you get tiny non-articulation figures of the 3 main child characters in the show and they look decent enough (though you can’t seat or pose them in or on your Transformers). Kinda wish they made Human Alliance versions of them… Hasbro certainly charges sufficiently for this pack to warrant it. The DVD includes Prime episodes and it’s by far one of the (if not the) best Transformers series of all time. I can’t really give a rating for these extras… just that you do get your money’s worth with this pack.

Been eating a lot of junk food lately… so I went and got some fresh ingredients to cook up a quick & easy dish that’s also healthy & delicious. There’s nothing more to say other than let’s cooks so I can eat dammit!

Ingredients:
- Your favorite fish fillet
- 1 red onion sliced
- Fresh dill
- 1 lemon
- Butter/margarine
- Salt & Pepper to taste

Directions:
Salt & Pepper each side of the fillet then place them on a sheet of tinfoil coated in butter/margarine. Add in dill, onions and a toping of melted butter/margarine. Wrap closed the tinfoil and cook at 400°F for 15-20 minutes. The fish will steam in the butter/margarine and its own juices. When done, place contents on a dish and squeeze some lemon juice on top before serving. OK, enough typing… time to chew.

Reviewed today are a collection of old gems and recent toy releases; DOTM deluxe Darksteel & Laserbeak, Human Alliance Shadow Blade Sideswipe, Original Figures Series: Witch Girl, Mad Catz BrawlStick, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Batman: Arkham City, Alien Breed Trilogy & Limbo. Yeah, I’ve been away for a while and yeah… these reviews are very brief. Oh well, better than wasting my life away in front of a computer writing out epic essays about pieces of plastic.

Transformers Dark of the Moon Deluxe Darksteel Review:
The whole reason I got Darksteel was to see if he could fit Human Alliance figures in his convertible mode… guess not. But, he is big enough to seat 2 Diaclone riders if you are lucky enough to have them. Transformation and articulation is above average but this figure does have more than a few kibbles plus his way-oversized weapon. His paint apps are quite vibrant and it shows most in robot form where the yellow contrasts with the teal and black. This repainted version of Sideswipe with new head sculpt and weapons is a major step up… but it still doesn’t make it a great toy; Darksteel gets a 7/10 (Good).

Transformers Dark of the Moon Deluxe Laserbeak Review:
The only reason I got Laserbeak was the fact that he was in the movie and all deluxe toys were on sale for $6 during Boxing Day. But when I got home and played around with this guy, he turned out to be better than I though. Regardless of the simplistic (more like nonexistent) transformation and the ugly fully revealed mode… the armored mode is quite stout and cute. Thought that’s all I have to say about this toy because that’s really all there is. Laserbeak gets a 6.75/10 (Decent).

Transformers Human Alliance Shadow Blade Sideswipe Review:
I got this SB Sideswipe at retail price so why not? This guy never got released here in Canada and I was looking for one to pose in vehicle mode. The only thing different about this toy is the paint apps and you get a different looking Mikaela figure instead of Sgt. Epps. I had thought that the black color would be an improvement over the original silver but it was not to be. Any hairline scratches and dust/grease marks will show up easy on this toy. Nevertheless, the silver racing stripes and purple tinted windows are a plus, and this guy gets a 9/10 (Excellent).

Original Figures Series: Witch Girl 1/6 Figure Review:
This huge and quite lovely figure was on sale at over 50% off so I decided to order it. She has glow-in-the-dark tattoos and removable clothing. Unfortunately, if you do decide to take the clothes off to see the tattoos, you’ll also see all the seam marks. Witch Girl looks like a big Revoltech figure (ok… it’s not that bad) with all the joint creases. Still, if you can ignore the unsightly lines, this is a very cool looking figure with a wicked gimmick. The tattoos show very well in the dark and the sculpting & painting was done very well. Witch Girl gets an 8/10 (Great).

Mad Catz BrawlStick Review:
I got a bunch of Wii games for a buck at my local Wal-Mart which in turn I got $15 worth of trade each at EB Games (I know… I’m a cheap bastard). I added a few extra bucks of my own and got the BrawlStick which was on sale at the time. The whole reason being I wanted to play Street Fighter with a real controller. After playing around with this controller, one will quickly realize that this is nowhere as precise as the $200 FightStick. At less than 1/2 the price however, this is good enough for the home gamer because it’s still way better than using your standard gamepad (or even the official Street Fighter gamepad). I’m giving the BrawlStick a 6/10 (Decent).

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Review:
There are a few new innovations with this latest incarnation if the AC series… but none are drastic enough to make it feel like a big leap from the previous version. The city of Constantinople/Istanbul doesn’t look as lively or as vibrant as the Italian cities… and Ezio is no longer a young sprite. Though the action and gameplay doesn’t feel as exciting, the plot has matured along with Ezio and El-Tahir… which gives more depth and meaning to those looking for a good story. AC: Revelations gets an 8.25/10 (Great).

Batman: Arkham City Review
Arkham City is prolly hands down my choice for game of the year (not that that counts for much). The sheer number of missions/side missions as well as the vast size of the open-world of Arkham City is immense. You’ll get double the amount of fun as you can play as Cat Woman with her own set of skills, enemies and missions. The graphics are incredible… and so are the sound & gameplay. Bottom-line, Arkham City gets a 9.75/10 (Excellent).

Alien Breed Trilogy Review:
What happens when you pile 3 XBLA games into a DVD? Not much… well, that’s being a little cruel as Alien Breed was addictive enough (in its monotonous way) to finish all 3 games. The games are a throwback to the top view shooter games of the past. Too bad the enemies get stale after a while and so does all the going back and forth. The weapons and upgrades are quite limited also. Still, there’s something to be said about a game that’ll make you play till the end… so this one gets a 6.5/10 (Decent).

Limbo Review:
Pretty much one of the best XBLA games I’ve ever played (but I don’t really play much). The mood is engrossing and you don’t even need a storyline to get a plot out of this game. It’s all black & white with shadows but the results are much more vibrant than many colored games that I’ve played. The puzzles are ingenious… and the pace can be quite furious t times. I really hope there’s a sequel in the works. Limbo gets a 9/10 (Excellent).

Pros:
- Awesome looking robot mode.
- Tons of cool gimmicks.
- Good range of articulation.
- Insanely complex transformation.
Cons:
- Vehicle mode is an incoherent mess.
- Many loose parts in robot mode.

I kinda got the feeling that Hasbro was going on a downward slope with the very first releases of the DOTM line. There were way too many repaints, crappy new moulds… and very few standouts. It took way too long for HA Roadbuster to show up at my neck of the woods but I did manage to grab a couple when it went on clearance for $10! After spending over an hour transforming this guy… I can definitely confirm that something is not right in Transformers land.

First of all… am I the only guy who thinks the weaponized vehicle mode looks like a piece of crap?!? Seriously, the panels are bent off angle and there are kibble sticking out everywhere. The transformation is so complex it’s going to give any kid that plays with him a complex. Nevertheless, the resulting robot mode does look very impressive and has a lot of cool gadgets and articulation. It’s too bad many of the parts on the body and limbs don’t snap flush with the figure and will shift when you handle the toy. The little Sergeant Recon figure fits nicely on the driver’s seat in car mode and stands/sits at the back of the robot’s head while manning a turret gun.

Even though there are incredible amounts of detail molded onto this toy, HA Roadbuster feels incomplete and out of sync with what a Transformer should be. Instead, he’s more like a half finished toy that would confuse the heck out of any kid trying to play with him. Still, if you’re a careful and meticulous collector then I guess he’s quite a nice collectible regardless of his flaws. Bottom-line, Roadbuster is one of those toys that make me relate to the majority of my friends (who don’t collect Transformers… or anything else for that matter). I’m like… what the hell is this thing trying to be and why the heck am I spending money buying this stuff?!? For $10 a pop, why not!?!

Vehicle Mode: 4/10
Robot Mode: 9/10
Transformation: 9/10
Articulation/Poseability: 8/10
Accessories/Gimmicks: 10/10
Intangibles (probably the only weaponized HA figure): 6/10
Value for the Price ($29.99 U.S.): 6/10
Overall (not an average): 7/10 (Good)

It was a really hectic year (pour moi) with little time to really get into collecting or enjoying toys. Transformers wise, there’s the contrast between some of the crappiest toys ever released in the form of the DOTM line and some of the very best in the form of the Generations line. Well, I’m gonna end the year with a high note. Reviewed today are RTS Special Ops Jazz, Turbo Tracks & Wreck-Gar, WFC Rage Over Cybertron 3 pack, Generations Sergeant Kup, Scourge, Thundercracker, Warpath and Wheeljack. It’s crazy how many of these toys just got released here locally for $5-$8 each… good things come to those who wait I guess.

Reveal the Shield Special Ops Jazz Review:
If I had to give my vote for Transformers toy of the year it would be Jazz. The genius who designed this epic robot with flip-out speakers and a sleek race car alt mode deserves an award. Every part of Jazz’s robot form is designed with stylized precision and care. The transformation is incredible and allows the speakers to be displayed in both modes. Jazz is one of the best articulating and most poseable figures I’ve ever played with. This guy deserves a 10/10 (perfect).

Reveal the Shield Turbo Tracks Review:
Tracks is an awesome figure with a very accurate G1 looking robot design. The metallic paint on his leg joints make him look like he’s made with diecast parts. He’s got a badass set of missiles behind the shoulders and a good sports car alt mode (if you can get all the parts to snap flush that is). My one real gripe with the guy is the fact that his “wings” don’t fold out in car mode like the G1 version. Regardless of this alt mode’s flaws, the robot mode more than makes up for them… Tracks gets a 9/10 (Excellent).

Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar Review:
Wreck-Gar is every bit as awesome as Jazz; there’s an insane level of detail and design when you see the perfect curvature of this guy’s arms, legs and chest. His dirt bike mode is very stable and can seat other deluxe sized Transformers. Wreck-Gar also has the best articulation and poseability of any Transformer made thus far so you can play with him like a G.I. Joe if you wanted. His parts fit perfectly together and he’s solid enough to take plenty of abuse. Wreck-Gar gets a 10/10 (Perfect).

Generations Rage Over Cybertron 3 Pack Review:
I already have WFC Bumblebee, Megatron and Optimus Prime; but these vibrant recolors give such a stunning improved looked to the 3 figures (especially for Bee & Prime). Megatron was already quite impressive looking but even he looks better in his new paint apps; Bee & Prime were great toys with crappy (more like no) paint apps. Though the 3 pack is quite pricey… even at 40% off. If you don’t already own these 3 figures then I would definitely recommend this 3 pack. And if you do, just give the old ones away to kids and buy this 3 pack on sale (like I did)… it’s that dam cool! I’m giving the 3 pack a 9/10 (Excellent).

Generations Scourge Review:
Scourge is probably the best classics/universe/generations Decepticon every made. The transformation is super-complex and the results are a very realistic vehicle mode and an awesome robot mode. Though Scourge isn’t an alien spacecraft this time around, his authentic robot form more than makes up for it. He’s got a very proportionate looking figure and the wings fold perfectly at his back and looks almost like a cape. This guy gets a 9.75/10 (Excellent).

Generations Sergeant Kup Review:
Kup has a futuristic yet retro-like truck mode that fits perfectly with this humble character. His feisty nature is revealed by his imposing robot form. I usually don’t like monolithic/bland color schemes but the light teal & silver works very well on Kup. There’re lots of stylistic features sculpted in both modes and the toy has an awesome array of articulation. You can buy 3rd party heads for this figure that gives Kup even more character/attitude… but I think they one he comes with is just fine. Kup gets a 9.75/10 (Excellent).

Generations Thundercracker Review:
What can I say about Thundercracker that I haven’t said about the other generations/classics seeker reviews… not much. Well, maybe something like “it’s about time Hasbro”! Thundercracker is aptly painted with a vibrant G1 scheme and he gets a 9/10 (Excellent).

Generations Warpath Review:
Warpath is the most mech/robot looking Transformers toy released to date… there’s no kibble erroneous parts to be seen in bot form (except for his extra long missile). You can pose this guy any which way and he looks boss doing so. His alt mode is cool and all… but not a realistic representation of a tank. I love how all his parts snap together snug and tight… if you have a kid who loves Transformers, then this is the one to get him/her. Dude is relatively easy to transform and he can withstand tons of manhandling. Warpath gets a 9.25/10 (Excellent).

Generations Wheeljack Review:
As with universe Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, Hasbro has found a way to alter Track’s mold to transform differently into Wheeljack. With the added help of a completely different paint scheme, the two figures look like night & day from each other. I prefer Wheeljack over Tracks not because of the colors but because of the different transformation results. Wheeljack seems to have a more flush/solid looking car form for some reason; but both look true-to-form to their G1 counter parts in robot mode. Jazz gets a 9.5/10 (excellent)… and I’m getting outta here. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
